Delicious marinated shrimp and easy to cook on the BBQ. They work great over rice, with stir fried veggies or as a salad protein. We even throw them on the plate with a steak for surf and turf! We affectionately refer to these as “Kara’s shrimp” because we got the recipe from Rene’s girlfriend, Kara.
Wow, that’s a lot of flavor!
The marinade on these shrimp adds a ton of deliciousness. They are great on their own or simply over a bed of rice. The mix of flavor definitely tends towards as Asian profile.
We also have had them with stir-fried veggies to make them a bit healthier. They add that extra kick to the veggies to make it pop.
Leftovers? Not likely if you have an eater like me around! Just in case, these are fantastic cold on a salad the next day as well!
I made these outdoors at our yurt for the video, so that’s why you’re seeing paper plates and some darker video segments (no electricity for lights up there!)
How to Make Marinated Shrimp
I make the marinade in a gallon size bag. Once it is all mixed together, I peel and devein (very important… that isn’t really a vein, it’s the shrimp’s intestine and you don’t want to eat that!) the shrimp the add them to the mixture.
I like to use large, uncooked shrimp for this recipe. The video shows 16-20 count shrimp (16-20 per pound) and those work great on the grill without sliding through the rack and give the punch of flavor in each bite!
Marinate the shrimp overnight to let them absorb the largest amount of flavor from the marinade, then it’s a quick 2-3 minutes per side on the grill and you’re ready to eat.
Grill temperature of 350-400 is ideal, and cooking time really depends on how big your shrimp are. They are ready to flip when you can see pink around the bottom edge of the shrimp. You can take them off when there is no more gray area on the shrimp (all pink and white) and the internal temperature gets to 145F. Don’t overcook the shrimp or they get rubbery and dry!
