Steakhouse Salad

This Steakhouse Salad is the perfect side for a hunk of beef like you’d get at the steakhouse, or a great salad to have as an entrée as well!

The History

This is a salad my Mother-In-Law makes that she remembers from living in Pennsylvania. Rene’ loves it and asks for it often. The flavors just work so well together! I’m not much into blue cheese, so I go very light or skip it, while they really enjoy the sharp flavor it adds to the salad.

Making the Steakhouse Salad Dressing

This dressing is seriously potent, so go light when you add it to the salad. You can always add more, but it’s hard to take it off once it’s on there. This dressing recipe probably makes enough for 6-8 of these salads!

Combine the garlic and olive oil and let the flavor infuse for several minutes.

After that, add the seasoned rice vinegar, pepper and diced pimentos. Mix well.

The Steakhouse Salad

First, cut a head of romaine lettuce into bite size pieces. Fill a bowl with the lettuce, then sprinkle on a 1/4 pound of shrimp, 3 strips of crumbled bacon and some blue cheese. Then drizzle dressing over the salad. This makes one salad (or two smaller side salads).

Wine Ideas

If you’re serving this as your entrée, a perfect match would be an oaky Chardonnay (think traditional California barrel aged). This matches with both the shrimp and the blue cheese, two of the big flavors in this dish. If you’re wanting red, a fruit forward red would work great. I would choose a Pinot Noir or Grenache to really bring out the best of both.

If you’re serving this as a side dish, pair your wine with whatever entrée you’re serving with it. Traditionally, this would go with a steak and Cabernet Sauvignon would be hard to beat!
